People: Tags
Tags
Tags can be used independently to sort your database, but are primarily used as a way to layer additional metadata on top of the standard search criteria associated with a project, a person, a company, a school, or a deal.
- Tags are firm specific (not user specific) – with the most common use cases being:
- To Tag people with a rating (i.e. A, B, C or 1, 2, 3 etc.)
- To Tag people to indicate the strength of a relationship (i.e. Relationship: Strong, Relationship: Weak etc.)
- We’ve even seen some firms use it for declaring contact ownership (i.e. Owner: Kraig etc.).
- Certifications/Special Education (may depend on a firm's specialization/focus)
- Tech Specifics (like programming languages, skills, focus)
- Industry or Roles (see seniority levels and specific roles used. Sometimes people also do specific function within roles - such as tagging CFOs that have taken companies public).
- Looking for (different than roles that have been performed)
- Mgmt "Levels" (P&L, staff managed, reporting levels)
- Location (grouping of areas - either larger than state/region or smaller. User by firms in Bay area to identify neighborhoods for contacts to determine commute distances)
- Relocation areas (not where the person is, but where they are willing to go).
- You can also use tags to see the number of records that are associated with each tag, and you can always see the tag cloud associated with any single project, person, company, school or deal record.
- Tags can also be included in our reporting (via picklist upon export) for further analysis outside the system if helpful.
- The system will also automatically start looking for similar tags as you begin to type out a new tag name – in order to help prevent tag overload.
(Optional Advanced Detail – Tags)
- You can always clean up tags if dupes are created via the Tag Interface and you can get rid of tags if you don’t need them any longer.
- You may consider naming a “Tag Czar” who lays out the firm’s use of tags based on a system they design based on their particular use case.
- We do not currently track tag changes over time (transitions from one tag to another) – although this is on the roadmap as a future feature.
